Many of the contributors of this project left to form Libre Office. StarOffice office suite was renamed as Oracle Open Office. In the year 2011 Sun microsystems was acquired by Oracle. The project was assisted by Sun employees and volunteers offering the OpenOffice office suite to everyone.
This free open office suite was known as Open. Sun made the Star Office software open source. In 1999, Sun microsystems acquired StarOffice office suite which was a proprietary office suite.
